PATIENT ABSTRACT:
Rationale:
Drugs used in chemotherapy such as alanosine use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die.
Purpose:
Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of alanosine in treating patients who have soft tissue sarcoma, sarcoma of the bone, mesothelioma, non-small cell lung cancer, or pancreatic cancer.
Eligibility:
•At least 18 years old (at least 13 years old for patients who have osteosarcoma)
•Measurable disease
•More than 6 weeks since chemotherapy
•At least 4 weeks since radiation therapy to the brain
•At least 4 weeks since surgery
Treatment Intervention:
Patients will receive a 5-day continuous infusion of alanosine every 3 weeks. Treatment may be repeated for up to nine courses. Patients will be evaluated at 4 weeks.
